The exhibition "I Segni dei tempi. Carlo Maria Mariani a Capodimonte" opened at the Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte in Naples, marked by a performance by Paola De Crescenzo. On view through July 14, 2026, both the exhibition and its accompanying catalogue have been curated by Antonio Martino and Andrea Viliani, with the generous support of The Carlo Maria Mariani and Carol Lane Mariani Foundation in NYC. The exhibition catalogue features essays by Eike Schmidt, Antonio Martino, Domenico Nardone, Francesca Sborgi, and Andrea Viliani.
"Capodimonte’s summer exhibition, concise in scale yet dense in significance, celebrates the extraordinarily generous donation by The Carlo Maria Mariani and Carol Lane Mariani Foundation in New York of the canvas I Segni dei Tempi (The Signs of the Times, 2019), and sets it within a broader horizon of meaning through the presence of seven further works by the artist, alongside a refined selection of Neoclassical porcelains from the museum’s own collections.
The exhibition takes both its occasion and its title from the donated painting, a work that may be regarded as exemplary of Mariani’s artistic vision, insofar as it brings together the two figures upon whom his reflection was most sustained and profound: Raphael and Marcel Duchamp." (Eike Schmidt)
