Andrea Ravo Mattoni. Revisiter les classiques is the catalog published on the occasion of Andrea Ravo Mattoni's solo exhibition at the Prieuré de Vivoin, Centre d'Art Plastique et Contemporain in Vivoin (FR) from September 4th to November 27th 2022. It includes a presentation by Cyrille Gouyette and an interview with the artist.
Andrea Ravo Mattoni was born in Varese on April 7, 1981 to a family of artists. His father, Carlo, is a conceptual behavioral artist, his uncle, Alberto, is a famous illustrator and his grandfather, Giovanni Italo, is a painter. Ravo was naturally immersed in the world of painting and drew from an early age. First as a graffiti artist and then in a more classical way at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brera where the Italian painter is dedicated to oil and acrylic. It is by merging these two passions that Andrea Ravo Mattoni creates his style "dal classicismo al contemporaneo" and an ambitious project: to recreate great masterpieces of the past with spray paint on walls to make them accessible to all.
Cyrille Gouyette is an art historian and project manager at the Louvre Museum. He holds a DEA degree from the University of Paris I, Panthéon Sorbonne. Passionate about the links that can be woven between the arts and periods, his DEA thesis was already on a comparison between Byzantine and Italian parietal representations in the fourteenth century. With Jean-René Gaborit, he published Les élans du corps : le mouvement dans la sculpture at the Louvre Museum in 2005, followed by Le nu féminin dans la peinture occidentale with Sonia Brunel, published by the same editor in 2008. More recently, he wrote Une street histoire de l'art, published by Alternatives/Gallimard in 2021. In 2022, he curated the exhibition "Incursions sauvages" at the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature in Paris.
