Karine Hoffman. Blazing Sun is the catalog published on the occasion of the exhibition « Karine Hoffman. Blazing Sun » at Galerie Dix9. Hélène Lacharmoise in Paris (FR) from March 20 to June 26, 2021.
Franco-Polish artist, graduate of the Beaux-Arts in Paris, Karine Hoffman lived for two years at the Casa Velazquez in Madrid. In France, his work occupies an unusual place, in the tradition of the German painters of the twentieth century, of the Cluj school and of Goya's “Disasters of War”, with subtle references to the literature of the countries of the Is and to the cinema fantastic. The artist thus frees painting from classical / modern opposition by considering the immemorial links of questioning the individual.
“Karine Hoffman nourishes her work with traces of phantom memory. His paintings are constructed like impossible equations referring to forgotten places or lives, from Lodz to Vilnius. The artist defines her painting as a filter that reveals what has fallen into oblivion, a place foreign to itself where narrative fragments and personal obsessions emerge ... painting as a world and as a place of a perpetual quest where the action is relayed to the margins, giving way to phantasmagoria and play. ” (Théo-Mario Coppola)
After completing her literary preparatory class, Elora Weill-Engerer graduated from the Louvre and Paris IV - Sorbonne schools in contemporary art and museology. Art critic and independent exhibition curator, she is a researcher in art history and contemporary art, in preparation for a doctorate at the University of Paris I - Panthéon-Sorbonne. She writes exhibition texts and articles for several journals on contemporary artistic practices which she seeks to analyze from a historical and literary perspective. She is responsible for the ETC Gallery in Paris, where she is also developing the artist's book business. With a particular taste for art bordering on abstraction and figuration, she attaches great importance to the consistency of an artist’s work and the sincerity of his practice.
