Lee Ungno is the catalog published on the occasion of the exhibition "Lee Ungno. Between Two Worlds" organized by Galerie Vazieux on the occasion of Art Basel Hong Kong from May 25 to 29, 2022.

Lee Ungno (1904-1989) is considered one of the most important Asian painters of the 20th century. Born in 1904 in Korea, he was introduced to the art of calligraphy at a very young age, a technique that he continued to perfect, particularly in Japan where he lived from 1935 to 1945 while he opened himself up to Western art. In 1958, he left South Korea for France where he founded, in 1964, the famous Académie de Peinture Orientale de Paris, of which Zao Wou-Ki, Hans Hartung, Pierre Soulages and Tsugouharu Foujita were members.

Sabine Vazieux is a specialist in post-war abstract painting in the West. For several years, she has devoted herself to her passion for Asian painting. She opened her gallery in Paris in 1999 where she now exhibits Asian abstract artists from the 1950s to the present.
