"There is something alive in Marlène Mocquet's work. Like a blooming flower. From a branching plant. Of a cell that multiplies. There is something that grows, that grows, that proliferates. To include us, to include us, to inhabit us. Until it grows under our eyelids. Until it takes root in our body. "(Amélie Adamo)
"For many months, Marlène Mocquet has cultivated her interior garden in the privacy of her studio. In the midst of a period of confinement, she let her works that she imagined grow within an undergrowth planted area. The Julio Gonzalez municipal gallery having the same spatial perspective and the same surface as the lair of his studio, the artist has projected himself into the scenography of the exhibition by carrying out a continual metamorphosis of plans and models that have evolved over time. as his creation progresses until it takes shape with space. "(Garance Cappatti)
Marlène Mocquet was born in 1979 in Maison-Alfort. She lives and works in Paris. She graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris with the congratulations of the jury. Christian Lacroix was one of his first admirers, who offered him the creation of a showcase for his shop on Place Saint-Sulpice in Paris. Since 2007, several solo exhibitions have been devoted to him in art galleries such as Haunch of Venison and Freight + Volume Gallery in New York, the Alain Gutharc and Laurent Godin galleries in Paris and the Galerie de la Béraudière in Brussels. His work has also been the subject of monographic exhibitions in numerous French institutions such as the Galerie Edouard Manet in Gennevilliers in 2008, the Musée d'art contemporain de la ville de Lyon in 2009, the Musée de l'Abbaye de Sainte -Croix aux Sables d'Olonne in 2012, the Maison des Arts de Malakoff in 2013 where she exhibited for the first time the sculptures made during her residency at the Manufacture de Sèvres. In 2017, she repeated the experience at the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature in an immersive exhibition, a character that will now become a leitmotif in the way she wants to present her work.
Amélie Adamo is an author, art critic and curator. Her thesis in History of Contemporary Art was the subject of the publication of A History of Painting of the 1980s in France by Éditions Klincksieck in 2010. She published in 2011 Métamorphoses du sacré : on Vladimir Velickovic at Éditions Galilée. She also regularly contributes to the drafting of numerous exhibition catalogs and texts for specialized magazines such as Le Journal des Arts , Verso Arts et Lettres , Art Absolutely , Artension , or the magazine L'Œil of which she is a permanent contributor. Attached to defending the work of emerging artists but also looking at the work of renowned artists, she orchestrates exhibitions, in galleries or in museum institutions, whose interest is mainly in figurative painting, questioning the questions of memory and transmission, of interbreeding and hybridization. In addition to her activity as an art critic, she has also taught History of Contemporary Art at university and in art schools.
