Mehdi-Georges Lahlou. Confused Memory is a book published on the occasion of the extra exhibition organized from April 20 to September 17, 2023 at the CENTRALE for contemporary art in Brussels (BE). It includes a preface by Delphine Houba, texts by Simon Njami and Tania Nasielski, and a conversation between Mehdi-Georges Lahlou and Chris Cyrille.

Mehdi-Georges Lahlou is a French-Moroccan visual artist who works in photography, performance, installation, video, painting and drawing. Born in 1983 in Les Sables d'Olonne (FR), he lives and works in Brussels, Paris, Athens and Casablanca. He studied from 2005 to 2007 at the Beaux-arts de Nantes, then in 2007 at the Beaux-arts de Prague and, in 2010, graduated from the St Joost Academy in Breda. After living in France and Morocco, he moved to Brussels in 20073. Recent solo exhibitions include Museo de Arte Colonial, Havana, Cuba, 2019; Botanique Museum, Brussels, Belgium, (2017), Galerie Rabouan Moussion, Paris (2017), TheArtSpace, Düsseldorf, Germany (2016).

Chris Cyrille is a freelance poet, art critic and exhibition storyteller who studied philosophy and art theory at the University of Paris 8. He has contributed articles to a number of French journals and is a member of the IAAC. In 2017, he was awarded the Dauphine Prize for Contemporary Art, the Prix Jeune Commissariat of the 69th edition of Jeune Création, and the IAAC Prize in 2020.

Tania Nasielski is co-artistic director at CENTRALE. She is exhibition curator, art critic and professor at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. She founded the not-for-profit curator-run space 105 Besme. She previously curated the exhibition Plasticiens en mouvement at the Dakar Biennale. She holds a master’s degree in Curating from Goldsmiths College, University of London, and a DESU in European Cultural exchanges from the University of Paris 8. She is a member of the Board of the Réseau des Arts in Brussels, and of various jury’s and commissions in the arts.

Simon Njami is a writer, curator, essayist and art critic and one of the founders of Revue Noire. He has written biographies of James Baldwin and Léopold Sédar Senghor. He curated Africa Remix, l’art contemporain d’un continent, an international itinerant exhibition featuring a comprehensive selection of contemporary African art. He was curator of Mehdi-Georges Lahlou’s exhibition Behind The Garden held at the Botanique in Brussels.
