Carolein Smit. Dents ! Crocs ! Griffes ! is the catalog published for the artist's solo exhibition at the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature in Paris (FR) from October 18, 2022 to March 5, 2023. It includes a preface by Christine Germain-Donnat, a text by Laurent de Verneuil and a conversation between Carolein Smit and Christine Germain-Donnat.

Born in 1960, Dutch artist Carolein Smit lives and works in Belgium. After training in graphic design and printmaking, she discovered ceramics in 1996 during a residency at the European Ceramic Work Center (EKWC). Her work has been shown in numerous solo exhibitions in Dutch, German and French art galleries, as well as in institutions such as the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Museum Kermion in Frechen, the Drents Museum in Assen and the Grassi Museum in Leipzig.

Christine Germain-Donnat began her career in 1999 as curator at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Lille, then at the Musée des Beaux-Arts and the Musée de la Céramique in Rouen. While directing the Grobet-Labadié Museum, she was in charge of the project for the Museum of Decorative Arts and Fashion at the Château Borély in Marseille from 2008 to 2013, before taking over the direction of the Heritage and Collections Department at Sèvres-Cité de la céramique. Christine Germain-Donnat has taken over as director of the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature in 2019.

Laurent de Verneuil is an art historian. He studied art history at the University of Paris I - Panthéon-Sorbonne. From 2004 to 2012, he worked with Patrick Favardin at the À Rebours gallery and then the Favardin & de Verneuil gallery. Their collaboration led to numerous exhibitions and publications celebrated by critics such as Les frères Cloutier, La lampe Gras, Steiner et l'Aventure du Design, Body & Soul. New International Ceramics, Le Décor est Planté and My Blue China at the Bernardaud Foundation in Limoges. In parallel to these activities, he has been researching and writing for many years on the California Funk of the 1960's, and on the place of craftsmanship in fine art.
