The catalog Marko Velk. Shifting documents the artist's solo exhibition at the Galerie municipale Julio Gonzalez in Arcueil from January 19 to March 23, 2024. It includes an introductory text by Olivier Kaeppelin. It was produced with the support of Arcueil town council and Marin Beaux-Arts.

"We are in the heart of the storm before it breaks. The workmanship of the drawing always keeps us "below" or "in between", in suspense. Something emerges from a nameless space. Through the shapes and surfaces, it's the presence of a threat that announces itself without ever surrendering itself. This threat is an anxiety with which Marko Velk plays hide-and-seek with memory, history and the history of art. He uses and metamorphoses all his borrowings to give new life to these figures who would otherwise be mere evocations and dead letters." (Olivier Kaeppelin)

Marko Velk was born in 1969 in Split, Croatia. He lives and works in the Paris region. A graduate of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, his work has been exhibited since the early 1990s in nearly a hundred exhibitions, including some twenty solo shows.

Olivier Kaeppelin is a French curator, art critic and writer. From the 1990s to the end of the 2010s, he held a number of senior positions at France Culture, Radio France, the French Ministry of Culture and Communication, where he was Director of Visual Arts from 2004 to 2010, the Palais de Tokyo and the Fondation Maeght, where he was Director from 2011 to the end of 2017. He has also been a research fellow at the École Pratique des Hautes Études, and has taught at the Université Paris-VIII in the Literature department, at the Université Panthéon-Sorbonne in the Art History department, and at the École des Beaux-Arts de Nantes.
