Sarah Jerôme. Lux Aeterna is the catalog published on the occasion of the exhibition "Sarah Jerôme. Lux Aeterna" at the Vazieux Gallery in Paris from June 2 to July 16, 2022. It is composed of a preface by Richard Leydier and a text by Annabelle Gugnon.

Born in 1979 in Rennes, Sarah Jérôme lives and works in Montreuil. She graduated from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Danse de Paris in 1998, then moved to the Opéra National de Lyon and studied at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-arts de Paris.

In her work, Sarah Jérôme operates between seduction and repulsion, astonishment and fright, dream and nightmare, delicacy and brutality. She explores a space between two, two states, two feelings, two moments. There is an irreducible ambiguity in all of her works that sensitizes the viewer to a non-Manichean vision of the world, lined with grey areas of troubling attraction. At daybreak or at nightfall, when the soul hesitates between doubt and hope, Sarah Jérôme enjoins us to appreciate the shards of light lurking in each corner of darkness. An aesthetic of dissonance that translates into intense and vulnerable images, with a twilight beauty.

The artist's work has been exhibited in various institutions and galleries such as: Espace d'art contemporain André Malraux (2020), Château de Maisons-Laffitte (2018), Galerie C (2018, 2016), Galerie Da-End (2018, 2017, 2016, 2015), Galerie Larnoline (2018, 2017, 2016), Espace Martiningo, Museo Pino Pascali (2017), Galerie Catherine Putman (2017), Musée Cognacq-Jay Paris (2015), Centre d'art contemporain Montreuil (2015), Cathédrale de Troyes (2015), Projektraum Ventilator Berlin (2014), Espace Pierre Cardin (2014), Arthotèque Annecy (2011). His works are notably in the collections of the Artothèque d'Annecy, Art collector (Evelyne and Jacques Deret) and the Musée Rodin Paris.

Richard Leydier is an exhibition curator, art critic and editor of the magazine Art Press. In this capacity, he has written a large number of monographs devoted to artists as diverse as David Altmejd, Bernhard Martin, Georg Baselitz, Vanessa Beecroft or Ernesto Neto. He is the author of several books on Ronan Barrot, Marc Desgrandchamps, Jean Messagier, Jonathan Meese and François Rouan, among others.

Art critic and psychoanalyst, Annabelle Gugnon has worked for Beaux-Arts Magazine for a long time and regularly collaborates with Art Press magazine. She has contributed to numerous exhibition catalogs and has led debate cycles at the Louis Vuitton cultural space. She is passionate about childhood and how adult life is rooted in early experiences. She trained in psychoanalysis at the La Borde clinic in Blois, a psychiatric institution founded by Dr. Jean Oury, who greatly contributed to the development of institutional psychotherapy.
